The Legend of Zelda Controls
The Legend of Zelda's game control scheme was pretty simplistic. The Nintendo Entertainment System only offered two main buttons, a control pad, and two other buttons. The buttons, and what they did, are listed below.
Control Pad
The control pad is used to control Link. Pressing a direction on the control pad will cause Link to move in that direction. Mastering Link's movement is essential to a good defense and offense.
A Button
The A Button operates Link's sword attack and sword beam attack. Unlike alot of the later Zelda games, you cannot hold down the A button for a charged sword attack.
B Button
The B Button controls Link's item usage. When pressed, it will allow Link to use any item he has equiped from the quest status screen, such as the candle or arrows. Few items Link obtains will be used automatically without assigning it to the B button.
Select Button
When you press select you can pause your game briefly. This was unique as the start button most often pauses a game.
Start
The start button is used to access the quest status screen, which displays Link's inventory, triforce pieces, and other useful quest information.
