A Link to the Past Heart Pieces

Heart pieces are on of the most important items to find in A Link to the Past. Each heart piece you find will add one-quarter of a heart to your collection and will add a new heart to your health after you collect four pieces. Here you will find a detailed list to point you to each and every heart piece, and let you know what you need to obtain it.

Light World Hearts
The Light World is familiar land to Link, inhabited by the people of Hyrule. Scattered across the land of Hyrule are several heart pieces, all hidden thoroughly well.

Kakariko Village Heart Pieces

In the northwest corner of Kakariko Village near the entrance to the Lost Woods, there is a well. Drop down and grab your treasures. Bomb the cracked wall (or use pegasus boots if you have them) and collect up your heart piece.
From the well above, head east to a house with a green roof (Blind the theifs house). Head inside and go down the stairs. There is a small block puzzles and a cracked wall. Bomb the wall for your heart piece.
In the farthest south portion of the village, near the library and arrow minigame is a house. Enter it an either bomb the wall or use the pegasus to open the two rooms. Head outside from the other rooms and talk to the lady. She will challenge you to a race. Complete it within 15 seconds for a heart piece.

Lost Woods Heart Pieces

Enter the Lost Woods from the far northwestern entrance (near the Lumberjacks). Head through the woods and you will run into a square patch of bush. Cut throught to the middle bush and drop down the hole (theive's hideout). You will drop in next to a piece of heart.

Desert Heart Pieces

When you get outside of the first half of the desert palace, it’s in the southwest corner.
There is a cave to the eastern part of the desert. Walk through until you reach a man and bomb the southern wall.
Warp to Misery Mire. Lift the rock to reveal a portal to the Dark World. Head off to the northeast corner and tuck yourself into the nook. Use the mirror and warp back. Lift the rock and make your way through the block puzzle here.

Death Mountain/Spectacle Rock Heart Pieces

At Spectacle rock, take a leap from the western ledge to reach a cave. Inside is a heart piece.
From the Dark World, use the pegasus boots to smash the rock pile on Spectacle Rock. The path is invisible, but with the Ether medallion we can light up the path momentarily. Head north and then to the west and bomb the wall. Take the exit here to a stray island. Use the mirror to arrive next to a heart piece.
From Turtle Rock, head to the first basement. Exit from the south to a narrow passageway. Just before the next entrance, use the mirror. Enter the cave and kill each enemy with arrows or bombs. Claim your heart piece.

Lake Hylia Heart Pieces

At the lake in the Dark World, you will notice a circle of rock near the eastern landing into the waters. Stand in the middle and use the mirror to warp back.

Hyrule Field Heart Pieces

Head south from Link's House. You will come across a small building with a small pond next to it. Head inside and past the block puzzle. Pull to eastern most lever to release the water, draining the pond. Head back outside to find your heart piece where the pond once was.
From the Dark World, head to the graveyard. In the backside, you will find stairs leading to an empty ledge. Use the mirror once you've climbed the stairs the gain access to a cave containing a heart piece.
When you buy flippers from the Zora at Zora Falls, swim down the waterfall to the south. Continue to swim around until you reach an area of land you can acess. Follow around the bushes to find a heart piece.
From the Sanctuary, head off west. Use the Pegasus Boots to smash a pile of rock here. Inside is a heart piece.
Once you've reached the Dark World for the first time, return to the Light World. Head off to the Lumberjack's house and use the pegasus boots to smash the tree they were cutting earlier. Drop into the hole for a heart piece.

Other Heart Pieces

Head south from where you found the flute. There is a circular patch of bush. Stand in the middle and use the mirror to arrive on a cliff with a cave, and inside is a heart piece.

Dark World Heart Containers
The Dark World is a dangerous, new land for Link filled with enemies waiting in ambush. Heart Pieces are scattered across the Dark World, hidden just as well as in the Light World.

Village of Outcasts Heart Pieces

At the Blacksmith's house, use the magic hammer to smash all of the stakes down, which will open a secret entrance. Inside is a heart piece.
Remember where the lady challenged you to a 15 second race for a heart piece? Head there and you will find a digging minigame. The heart piece is buried at random, so dig fast!
Head west of where Blind's House was in the Light World. There is a house still standing, and inside is a Treasure Chest minigame. Pick the correct chest to uncover a heart piece (I usually pick the second right row, second chest from the right, but its random).

Misery Mire Heart Pieces

Use the flute to arrive at the Desert. Use the portal under the rock to get to Misery Mire. Once you stop the rain, enter the western cave, which holds a heart piece.

Pyramid of Power Heart Pieces

Once you arrive at the Pyramid of Power, hop down the right most ledges. Before you reach the ground, walk around the side of the Pyramid to reach a hidden heart piece.

Death Mountain Heart Pieces

At the base of the mountain, head east to reach an large gap where a bridge used to be. Use the hookshot to cross it.
